Our new program, launching in September 2018, gives students the best of both worlds –vital front and back end web development skills and techniques to become a well-rounded full-stack web developer. Unlike in the boot-camp programs, York University helps students add these in-demand skills to their tool-kit without taking months off work.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a Part-Time Instructor & Course Developer you will lead the development and delivery of your course under direction of the Program Manager and Academic Coordinator, and in consultation with the Program Advisory Council, instructor peers and the instructional design team. We work as a collaborative team to make sure our students get the best education possible.

INSTRUCTOR & COURSE DEVELOPER DUTIES

As a course developer and instructor on our team you will:

  • Develop and deliver course curriculum for Face to Face learning (40 contact hours over 7 weeks) using the templates and process provided
  • Define, evaluate and validate learning outcomes, and correspondingly design strategies and tactics for assessing student learning
  • Offer creative and engaging instruction that improves student success
  • Work with our team to embed in-demand technologies into the classroom experience
  • Provide formative assessment of student learning through a variety of methods and subsequently providing counsel to students where required
  • Support learning through formative assessment and summative evaluation
  • Participate in academic/curriculum and other components of annual and comprehensive program reviews
  • Periodically weigh in on other program matters, including student recruitment and selection, scheduling, room assignments, technology, etc.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate level of education completed in computer science, engineering, math, statistics or physics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a practitioner of web development solutions from beginning to end in a business environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching or training adults in an educational or corporate setting
  • Experience incorporating adult learning principles and constructivist approaches to teaching and learning in an outcomes or competency-based approach is preferred
  • Very strong coding skills in multiple core programming languages
  • Strong comprehension of core web principles and the components that comprise a modern web application
  • Extensive experience with the latest industry standard front end, back end, and full-stack web development technologies: not just “taking off the shelf” but designing and developing
  • Demonstrated ability working in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and organizational skill
