Marketing Communications Specialist Full-Time

Position Summary
Staples Customer Service interacts with customers millions of times each year, and each interaction provides an opportunity to improve the customer experience, customer satisfaction, and our operations.  The Customer Service Intelligence Center team is responsible for finding those important insights and we are adding an experienced storyteller to the team.  As the Communications Specialist, your role will be to distill analysis findings into key messages and weave a compelling story complete with convincing calls to action.  No dry technical readouts here - you will translate complex topics into easily understandable and fascinating presentations, infographics and other powerful communication mediums.  Today you may be a marketing analyst, content producer, or advertising copywriter – tomorrow you can help us build a world class Intelligence Center.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create communications (primarily presentations and infographics) for audiences at all levels of the company by synthesizing key messages into a clear, strategic narrative, illustrated with high impact graphics
  • Partner with data analysts to extract data relevant to the audience and transform into easy to understand concepts
  • Partner with business experts to communicate the customer viewpoint to our leadership and the rest of the company
  • Ability to analyze and translate statistical, financial or otherwise technical information in order to understand and target audiences with key messages
  • Build relationships with business partners to gain a better understanding of their perspective and how they prefer to receive information
  • Partner with project teams in order to create presentations that summarize their findings and improvements
  • Participate in projects as a communications subject matter expert to create and execute communication plans
  • Complete ad hoc requests for presentation content
  • Assist in coordinating presentations in support of key business projects and initiatives
  • Prepare presentations and talking points for major Customer Service initiatives
  • Research communication trends, evaluate and recommend new communication methods and tools that increase associate engagement and alignment; act as subject matter expert on all things related to creating effective presentations
  • Support other Customer Service projects as requested

  • Is comfortable with ambiguity in a role and can perform without a pre-defined, structured process
  • Can quickly understand complex data and analysis and translate into straightforward explanations

Required qualifications

  • At least 3 years professional work experience in a Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or similar role
  • Experience working with complex topics and information
  • Possesses a conceptual understanding of statistics
  • Experience with communication theory and strategies
  • Expert level proficiency with powerpoint and creating infographics

Preferred qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or Business Administration preferred
  • Formal education in communication theory
  • Graphic design experience
