Role

The Royal Alberta Museum is looking for a graphic designer to help show off the best in Alberta culture and history.

Reporting to the Head of Graphic Design, the Graphic Designer will work as part of a team of people responsible for the design and production of all two dimensional graphic requirements for the Royal Alberta Museum. This position will develop and implement innovative and effective graphic design solutions using Apple hardware and software. The position will be involved in developing design concepts, and creating digital artwork for exhibition signage, education and marketing promotional print materials, as well as, webpage and iPad application designs. The position oversees the production of various products both in-house and through outside services. This position is required to have the ability to coordinate concurrent projects and to schedule time efficiently.

To be successful in this role, you will need strong photography and illustration skills. Strong organization and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work in and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Along with their resume, candidates are asked to provide an illustration with a short slogan that demonstrates what the Royal Alberta Museum represents for them. It can be in any format as long as it fits an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet.

A three year diploma in Visual Communications Design or other related field, plus two years of related experience, is required. Thorough knowledge of the latest Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat) and Microsoft Office is essential. Experience with Adobe Flash and Perfect Photo Suite 7.5 is an asset. Familiarity with Apple computer hardware and software is needed. Previous experience operating vinyl-cutter, dry mounting, and lamination equipment is an asset.
