The Communications department is entrusted with supporting the achievement of priorities in SAIT's strategic plan, enhancing our brand and executing on communications and marketing strategy across SAIT, in collaboration with schools and departments. We continually seek to raise the bar, improve our practices and showcase creativity.

Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Institutional Projects, this role will work on a variety of integrated communications and marketing projects, and is the content lead for SAIT’s intranet. As content lead, you will plan, create, curate, edit and post content — stories, video, photography, graphics — to the internal website. You will be a campus-wide collaborator with your finger on the pulse of what’s taking place across the institution. You will also contribute to the strategic direction of the intranet, and will be required to remain current on best practices and trends. When you are not bustling around campus sourcing content, you will be supporting the team with strategic communications and institutional projects.

Responsibilities:

Implement strategic intranet plan and supporting project plans

  • Manage editorial/content calendar
  • Active throughout campus and at live events in seeking out original content, with a focus on writing and photography.
  • Write, gather and send out bulletins.
  • Basic execution of multi-media content, including video, gifs, graphics, contests, live event coverage and bulletins
  • Share appropriate content across teams
  • Project manage the execution of the plans/calendar, which includes collaborating across the department and campus
  • Maintain and review analytics
  • Champion and exercise collaboration within the department and across the campus to facilitate and maximize effective content sharing, engagement and best practice.

Create and implement strategic plans for institutional projects and intranet

  • Research and implement best practice
  • Align to SAIT’s strategic priorities
  • Enhance and/or protect SAIT’s reputation/brand
  • Maintain appropriate levels of engagement with SAIT stakeholders
  • Create supporting project plans as needed.

General communications work – collaborating with the team

  • Write speeches, emails and letters
  • Develop presentations and plans
  • Support the team with institutional projects
  • Support and provide back up to team as required
  • Abide by and support all Health and Safety responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum degree or diploma (Communications, Journalism or equivalent)
  • Minimum three years of experience in communications: developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Minimum three years of writing experience
  • CMS (Joomla) experience an asset
  • Strong digital photography skills
  • Intermediate Adobe Creative Suite experience
  • Strategic thinker with sound judgment
  • Strong and creative storyteller
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, visual and oral
  • Experience in multiple writing styles, including web, feature, news, video
  • Advanced editing skills, including content, spelling and grammar
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize projects
  • A good understanding of web best practice, including information architecture
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with contributors, designers, developers and a variety of other stakeholders
  • Able to work within tight deadlines.
