Irving Shipbuilding, located at 3099 Barrington Street Halifax NS B3K 5M7, is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company's primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defense and the Canadian Coast Guard. To assist us in effectively communicating with our workforce and external stakeholders we are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, creative communications professional to join our Communications Team. This is a permanent full time staff role based at the Halifax Shipyard, 3099 Barrington St, Halifax NS.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with the creative development, coordination, scheduling, production and delivery of diverse internal and external communication materials
- Coordinate the publication of the employee newsletter, which includes editorial planning, writing and editing of article, layout, and production management
- Assist in managing and developing content for a range of digital communications activities including social media and internal/external websites
- Assist in organizing on-site events at our various operations, press conferences, and company announcements that include the gathering and production of various communication products in a diversity of mediums
- Coordinate development and placement of traditional and digital marketing and communications
- Create and coordinate the production of designed content (e.g. advertisements, signage, banners, etc.)
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of social and digital properties using analytical software, such as Google Analytics
- Develop social and traditional media monitor reports
Visually capture through photography and videography the activity occurring in an industrial work environment
- Assist in other communications activities & projects, as required

Knowledge, Skills and Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations / Journalism, Advanced Diploma Public Relations plus undergraduate degree, or combination of relevant education and experience
- Minimum three years’ experience in public relations / communications
Superior writing /editing skills
- Experience in creative writing, project management, photography, and design
- Experience working with a content management system (CMS) to manage website properties
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop and InDesign), iMovie, Sendible
- Experience with social media channel management, maintenance and measurement
- Ability to work (written and spoken) in English and French will be considered an asset
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, diverse and growth oriented environment
- Experience in a project based industrial work environment will be considered an asset

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
