BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT ADVISOR

We currently have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Business Development Advisor in our Winnipeg Branch.  Reporting to the ROC Branch Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to the achievement of a profitable and growing portfolio of business by effectively promoting the company.  The territory for this position is Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Territories.  The successful candidate can be based out of Winnipeg.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contact, screen and handle new appointments
  • Train and educate brokers on products, policies/procedures, technological changes and underwriting guidelines
  • Accountable for acquiring new business, maintaining and growing existing business and providing advisory and strategic partnership to our Brokers
  • Participate in regular broker audits and follow up with required course of action
  • Gather market and competitive information and report same
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokerage force, including regular broker visits
  • Participate in the development and implementation of marketing/business development plans
  • Represent the company by attending industry functions
  • Communicate and review monthly broker production and profit performance
  • Respond to broker enquiries and provide advice/guidance in developing and executing sales initiatives for company products
  • Act as a liaison between brokerage force and company personnel
  • Various other duties, administrative or otherwise, as required

Other Duties

  • Occasional underwriting advice for all business lines
  • Planning/organizing company events (Golf tournaments/broker receptions)
  • Occasional risk inspections

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years related insurance experience
  • Must have Business Development/ B2B sales experience
  • CIP/FCIP designation or working towards
  • Familiarity of underwriting, including a minimum of 3 years in Commercial Lines
  • Proven knowledge of policy wordings and rating guidelines
  • Insight into current market and industry trends
  • Willing and able to travel, including overnight stays
  • Ability to work independently and highly self motivated
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills
  • Strong business management capabilities (business plans, marketing plans, metrics)
  • Strategic thinker
  • Well developed interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft
  • Post-secondary education would be an asset
