Designer & Front End Web Developer full-time
I manage a software development team inside the MD program at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. We have a portfolio of web applications that needs some design and front end love. We enjoy a great churn of projects and work with the most amazing physicians and students in the city. This posting reads as development heavy, but the truth is we really want a design/UI/UX web person first and a developer second. If you can manage a wordpress theme without help, and can tweak a javascript library with just a bit of googling - you are probably technical enough. The position needs a technical footprint in order to have salary floor of 55K annually (along with all the benefits you'd expect from a union role - like a 35 hour work week)
We believe our best stuff could be better and our worst stuff needs some work. As an embedded team we work right alongside the physicians delivering the program and amongst the students in it.
Here's some of our projects that have public facing components:

Some of these are custom, some are wordpress, some are drupal
You'd be doing theme and content work in wordpress, content and polish inside central ITs drupal instance
Cards is one of our own - you'd be working alongside the developers providing graphic assets for our Wii Mii like patient faces. When we are breaking new ground - you'd be helping turn ideas into wireframes and sketching. At times you'd be doing research poster layouts promoting the medical education research of our faculty. Some of our existing applications need face lifts - like our online testing environment.
Being embedded with the administration of the program, the faculty and students mean you are part of delivering the medical education program. As an artist in a previous life, I can tell you working in this space is incredibly rewarding and our creativity is valued! However being embedded also means we sometimes work on the frontlines, helping our peers, staff and students with our applications.
