Role: Senior Art Director (NOC 5241)

Salary:  $100,000 – $150,000/year and Benefits (Extended Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance) + may be eligible for bonuses and salary increases, if applicable

Position: 45 hours/week, Full-time, Permanent

Location of work: Aritzia Support Office (#118-611 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC, V6A 1E1)

As Senior Art Director, the individual is responsible for delivering the creative for Aritzia’s marketing. They will play a pivotal role in creating a consistent and elevated creative experience across all our customer touchpoints and guiding creative leads towards our business and creative objectives. Throughout the creative development process, they will work closely with key creative and Marketing partners to ideate on campaign strategy and concept.

The key responsibilities of the Senior Art Director will include the following:

1. CREATIVE DIRECTION

To bring our brands to life each season through elevated and relevant creative direction.

a) Brand Identity – Oversee the development of each brand’s identify and approve the final brand name, logo, typography, voice and brand statement.

b) Brand Tools – Oversee and approve the creation of the style guides to support with the development of assets.

c) Brand Assets – Oversee the development of materials that will be applied on our channels in support of our brands, and provide final approval.

2. STYLING

To realize the creative vision by creating beautiful outfits.

a) Styling Strategy – Oversee and guide the Styling strategy.

b) Art Direction – Oversee and guide Styling art direction.

c) Wardrobing – Work with the head of Styling to approve assembled outfits.

d) Detailing – Work with the head of Styling to approve detailing that refines outfits.

e) Accessorizing – Work with the head of Styling to approve accessorizing that elevates outfits.

f) Technical Styling – Work with the head of Styling to ensure the intended purpose of each garment is considered and styled to showcase the product.

3. COPY

To deliver the words and written content to promote Aritzia and drive customer affinity.

a) Brand Voice – Work with the head of Copy to ensure we are communicating about our brand in a consistent, purposeful and engaging way.

b) Product Copy – Work with the head of Copy to ensure that product copy accurately promotes our product.

c) Channel Copy – Work with the head of Copy to ensure that channel copy drives customer transactions.

d) Campaign Copy – Work with the head of Copy to ensure that campaign copy drives engagement and excitement for our campaigns.

e) Corporate Copy – Work with the head of Copy to ensure corporate copy promotes Aritzia and its initiatives.

f) Technical Voice – Work with the head of Copy to ensure the highest quality output of written content.

4. GRAPHIC DESIGN

To create unique, cohesive, and aspirational graphic design.

a) Art Direction – Oversee and guide Graphic Design art direction.

b) Logos – Work with the Graphic Design team to ensure logos are unique and memorable, and visually communicate the brand identity.

c) Print – Work with the Graphic Design team to ensure printed materials communicate are accurate and brand propelling.

d) Product Packaging – Work with the Graphic Design team to ensure product packaging is beautiful and informative, and distinguishes our brands while supporting shoppability.

e) Packaging – Work with the Graphic Design team to ensure that Retail, eCommerce and initiative packaging is functional and eye catching, and meets the needs of the markets in which we operate.

5. DIGITAL DESIGN

To create unique, aspirational, and intuitive digital design.

a) Art Direction – Oversee and guide Digital Design art direction.

b) Emails – Work with the Digital Design team to ensure emails keep our girl engaged and informed throughout the season.

c) .Com – Work with the Digital Design team to ensure Aritzia.com is elevated and optimized for the customer.

d) Social – Work with the Digital Design team to ensure our social posts are engaging and build brand awareness.

e) Digital Screens – Work with the Digital Design team to ensure our digital screens enhance the in-store experience.

6. PHOTOGRAPHY

To deliver unique, impactful, and aspirational photography.

a) Art Direction – Oversee and guide Photography Art Direction.

b) Asset Creation – Work with the Photography team to ensure captured images and videos are brand propelling and aligned to our product and brand vision.

c) Post Production – Ensure imagery is enhanced to showcase the product true to life.

7. DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT

Work with the appropriate Business Support partners to seamlessly lead the day-to-day function of the department in support of corporate objectives, while enabling progressive career development and an incredible employee experience

a) People Management – Lead and advance our people, maximizing their results through the 10 areas: Planning, Hiring, Onboarding, Evaluating, Developing, Engaging, Scheduling, Compensating, Transitioning, and Relating

b) Operations Management – Lead the day-to-day department priorities and net new initiatives by championing quality output, encouraging timely results, implementing a methodical approach, and setting up clear accountability across the team

c) Technology Management – Set the standard for high quality data management, ensure current systems are maintained and continuously improved, and identify, evaluate, and drive opportunities to secure future investments in technology

d) Finance Management – Lead the team to proactively maximize the department's financial performance, strategically leading opportunities to drive revenue growth and capitalize on smart spending opportunities

e) Analytics Management – Leverage reporting to identify opportunities, predict future outcomes, and improve the department's and organization's performance

Throughout the course of employment, additional duties and responsibilities may be amended as required.

The Senior Art Director will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, or related field
  • 5+ years of related progressive design agency experience or in-house fashion branding experience
  • Prior experience providing art direction on fashion campaigns for a fashion apparel retailer or within the fashion industry
  • Ability to ideate, develop and execute creative concepts and campaigns from initial development phase to final product/output in a multi-channel environment
  • Experience with and knowledge of digital and traditional industry processes and production pipelines, market trends and strategy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to articulate creative concepts and rational to other team members and cross-functional partners
  • Complete fluency and proficiency in the use of the MAC system, Adobe Creative Suite (Design, Illustrator and Photoshop) and MS Office
  • Ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and external teams
  • Highly attentive to details and ability to create execution-ready work
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
