Lumerical is a leading developer of photonic simulation software – software which enables research and development professionals to predict how light behaves within complex photonic components, circuits, and systems. Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the world’s most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts, optimize designs without creating physical prototypes, and deliver on their ambitious product development goals.

As the Director of Marketing, you will work proactively and collaboratively with various stakeholders to establish and grow Lumerical’s brand identity through compelling campaign and product management. And as a senior member of the Technical Steering Committee, you will champion the ongoing evolution of the company’s product vision to strengthen the competitive positioning of its products and win strategic business and partnership opportunities.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Lead the company in identifying new market opportunities, taking inspiration from customers, strategic partners, and Lumerical’s Product Development, Sales, Technical Support, and Applications teams as appropriate
  • Direct ongoing product development investments and strategic partner development to ensure the continued success of the company’s product portfolio
  • Define pricing, market penetration and expansion strategies to achieve market success for new and existing product offerings
  • Contribute to the definition of overall corporate goals and objectives required to acquire and grow the license base within new and existing customer sites

Management

  • Set goals and measures of success for the Marketing team and put together plans and budgets for achieving those goals
  • Oversee ongoing competitive and market trend analysis to identify new markets, industries, partnership opportunities and potential customers to grow Lumerical’s customer base
  • Direct the creation of the company’s product development roadmaps, including defining the scope of features and how they would best be integrated into product, to ensure each of the company’s products meets or exceeds expected growth and revenue targets
  • Coach, mentor and manage the performance of the Marketing team

Marketing Communications & Brand Management

  • Establish the Lumerical brand as a leader in the target markets it competes within
  • Create marketing communication plans and programs to differentiate and strengthen the company’s products within a rapidly-changing marketplace
  • Manage the messaging of new product releases, working with the Marketing Communications Specialist to implement the communications plan
  • Drive targeted lead nurturing initiatives and practices

Customer & Partner Relations

  • Develop and manage relationships with key partners and customers
  • Align marketing initiatives to business development plans for direct and indirect sales teams
  • Work with Sales to identify top customer opportunities
  • Participate on the Customer Experience team to provide input on strategies for acquiring, retaining, and growing customer accounts

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate- or graduate-level degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in a marketing role for complex and/or technical software products
  • A proven ability to successfully introduce products to new markets, manage their development and grow market share and revenue by winning large-scale opportunities
  • Experience providing input into strategy and leading an annual planning/priority setting process for a department
  • Strong people management skills and a demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with photonics and typical industrial applications of photonics
  • Exceptional written, spoken and presentation skills
