Communications Design Manager

We are seeking a skilled, committed and passionate person to provide outstanding services as our Communications Design Manager within our International Headquarters Office location in Burnaby, BC. We are looking for someone who resonates with Ratanak International's vision and mission in serving Cambodia and desires to help our organization meet its goals of seeing transformative impact take place in Cambodia through innovative and sustainable initiatives. As an applicant, you must have advanced graphic design, visual branding experience, and enjoy implementing creative communications strategies to achieve positive and measurable results. Strong knowledge of website development and maintenance, video production/editing, and engaging social media platforms is an asset. Our ideal applicant is creative, innovative, flexible, possesses excellent personal-relations and communications skills, can work independently with a desire to contribute in a collaborative atmosphere, working as a critical part of a small, dedicated team. This is a part-time position commencing August 22, 2017. This period includes time for initial training.

Job Description:

Communications Design Manager, Part-Time

Primary Operating Location:

International Headquarters Office, Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Administration, and closely consulting with the Founding Director, the Communications Design Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining Ratanak International’s visual branding and creating a broad variety of communications material in support of the fundraising and awareness initiatives of Ratanak International.

Working alongside our Strategic Communications Manager, the Communications Design Manager will focus on managing the graphic design and production processes of print projects and informational/promotional material in a variety of mediums, website development and maintenance including further engagement of social media platforms, and assistance with designing materials that can be used as tools for volunteers, events, donor campaigns and donor appreciation initiatives, ensuring quality control and consistency with Ratanak International’s branding.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Implements design and visual elements of approved external communications strategy/plan.

  2. Collaborates with the Director of Planning and Administration and Founding Director to support the development and management of visual branding.

  3. Creates and maintains informational and promotional material in a variety of mediums, including graphic design, web design, video and engagement with various social media platforms.

  4. Expands Ratanak International’s awareness reach through excellent visual implementation of effective and efficient marketing opportunities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications Strategy:

• Works closely and collaborates with the Strategic Communications Manager and Fundraising Team to implement the technical elements of the approved external communications strategy.

Branding and Marketing:

  • Collaborates with the Director of Planning and Administration and International Directors to implement Ratanak International’s visual brand and to manage ongoing brand identity across multiple platforms.

  • Provides remote training to international personnel regarding effectively communicating Ratanak International’s visual brand.

  • Provides visual material for approved effective marketing opportunities such as direct mail pieces, fundraising campaigns and events.

  • Collaborates with the Fundraising Team to develop fundraising campaigns.

Graphic Design:

• Working closely with the Strategic Communications Manager, oversees the visual design, print production process and web content of all communications initiatives and vehicles.

o Creates promotional and informational materials such as, but not limited to, marketing materials, brochures, bookmarks, donation slips, special event booklets, annual reports, merchandizing products, toolkits and appreciation materials for donors and volunteers, quarterly newsletters, marketing emails, online content for website and social media.

o Collaborates with Strategic Communications Manager to create a cohesive quarterly newsletter, where Strategic Communications Manager produces the copy and Communications Design Manager is responsible for the layout, graphics, and production process.

o Provides communications support for Ratanak Endorsed Fundraisers and Events. o Ensures that sensitivities and security issues are thoroughly considered in all publications where content such as photographs, names and places involving vulnerable individuals are featured.

o Ensures all promotional materials are consistent with Ratanak International’s visual branding identity.

Websites:

• Working alongside the Strategic Communications Manager, oversees the design, functionality and management of all Ratanak’s international websites: Canada, United States, UK, and Australia and produces all visual design elements to be used on these websites.

o Ensures the graphics and design features are effective communicators of Ratanak International’s branding, focus and values on all sites.

o Ensures the functionality is leading edge and innovative, making the most of access to social media tools and resources on all sites.

o Ensures the content created by the Strategic Communications Manager regarding projects, organizational information, pictures, videos, and other content on all websites are clearly and effectively organized, with security issues carefully considered.

o Creates/captures/sources/uploads new videos and to use for promotional purposes.

Social Media:

• Works alongside the Strategic Communications Manager to provide technical support for Ratanak International’s Social Networking engagement.

o Assists in further development of Ratanak International’s Twitter accounts, Facebook group, YouTube channel and other social media, ensuring quality control and consistency with Ratanak International’s visual branding.

o Ensures Ratanak International is engaging with leading edge social media opportunities and resources to maximize reach and influence.

o Collaborates with Strategic Communications Manager to oversee production of short video clips to use as updates or as informational/awareness raising pieces that can be used on Ratanak International’s website, at fundraising events, and circulated on social medial platforms.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Formal education ideally in graphic design, communications, branding/marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated excellence in graphic design.

  • Demonstrated excellence in the development and maintenance of online visuals including experience with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube and integrating social media within websites.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee creation of short videos is an asset.

  • Demonstrated excellence in the conceptualization and implementation of marketing campaigns, communication plans and initiatives.

  • Capable of understanding the ‘big picture’ while paying meticulous attention to the details of the role; and the ability to understand and integrate all aspects of the organizational culture into visual design.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing situations and conditions and to work under pressure and to tight timelines

  • Computer literacy with Mac platform.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and advanced level skills with Adobe Creative Suite, (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop)

  • Competencies with Final Cut Pro video editing software, is an asset.

  • Familiarity with WordPress and email marketing platforms is an asset.

  • Web design experience and coding (HTML, CSS, JS, PHP) is an asset.

  • Photography skills and video development are assets.

  • Ability to work effectively in a faith-based organization and environment, and/or not-for-profit experience is an asset

  • Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment is required.

    Scheduling and Remuneration:

    This is a part-time, three (3) day per week position based on a twenty-four (24) hour workweek (weekday scheduling). Candidates must be willing to work outside core hours on occasion as necessary.

    The successful candidate will be eligible for a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with their knowledge, skills and experience as required by this position.
