Manager, Media

Position Summary:

You are passionate about the ever-changing media landscape and the opportunity to help shape it. As our Manager, Media, you are the key day-to-day contact for internal marketing clients and business lines to initiate, develop, and execute effective advertising campaigns that deliver on set-out objectives and drive measurable results. In this unique role, you will be part of an experienced and entrepreneurial media team and have the opportunity to explore, plan, and buy across a wide spectrum of media platforms, setting the bar for strategic and creative thinking in all media services. The role is broad and encompasses a variety of capacities including client management, traditional and online planning and buying, and team leadership. Integration and innovation are key.

Primary Responsibilities:

Media Planning and Recommendations. Lead the media planning process, working with Marketing category teams, media agencies and direct media partners in the development of media recommendations and plans. Collaborate with Marketing Category teams and SDM business lines to understand campaign goals and strategies to develop appropriate solutions. Work with media agencies to research, develop and recommend appropriate advertising media solutions (traditional media platforms as well as digital including display, video, search, mobile, etc). Manage day-to-day media agency relationship and provide significant input and direction into all media mix discussions and analysis. Utilize current consumer research and employ audience measurement tools as required.
Media Buying and Campaign Management. Manage the media buying process across advertising disciplines (TV, radio, print, out-of-home, online) to deliver excellent executions with media agencies and direct advertising partners. Assume internal management of campaigns including buying, budget control, trafficking, reporting, and optimization of plans. Liaise with Marketing, Creative, Digital, Accounting, and Category teams to ensure information flow is communicated in a timely and effective manner. Manage media budgets and execution of authorized plans, purchase orders and media payments. Approve advertising billing and invoices for payment. Communicate with agencies and outside vendors for billing issues and dispute resolution. Maintain accurate spending forecasts and update as needed.
Campaign performance and results. Provide post-mortem reports for all media campaigns to Marketing and Category teams with assessment on return on investment against plan objectives and contribution by media channel.
Market Intelligence. Keep up with the latest media trends and emerging technology. Attend media seminars / events as necessary. Identify new and potential media opportunities through the understanding and alignment of consumer, brand, category, and technical insights. Prepare and present evaluations and recommendations of media opportunities, media trends, and issues of interest to Marketing and Category teams.
Team and Department. Work collaboratively with various teams inside Marketing, Category and Business Lines. Positively contribute towards increasing the media knowledge and cohesiveness within the Marketing group. Train/mentor junior members of Media department

As the point of contact for media requests, this position requires an advanced level of initiative and judgement in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload, and projects. A highly motivated self-starter.
Extensive understanding of marketing industry trends, tactics, current events, and user behavior, particularly as they relate to the development and management of integration advertising campaigns.
Proficient use of industry tools (e.g. PMB, Comscore, Google Adwords and Analytics) with demonstrated ability to effectively apply knowledge and insights gained to media planning and solutions
Strong computer skills including technical competence with MS Office Word, Powerpoint, Excel -to produce effective spreadsheets, reports, documents and presentations, as required.
Strong organization and time-management skills with ability to balance solid strategic thinking with deadline execution
Analytical, detail- and results-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and strong work ethic.
Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment

Education & Job Knowledge:

Post secondary education equivalent to a university degree and / or diploma in marketing, advertising or related field.

Experience:

5+ years of demonstrated experience in both traditional and digital media / advertising with preferred expertise from an agency and / or industry category such as CPG, Retail, Food, Beauty etc.
2 - 3 years in a management position
Experience working with and managing agencies
Preferred experience with paid search, pay per click campaigns, email marketing, site metrics, campaign analytics, including experience with 3rd Party Ad Servers.
